Echoes of the Romani Legacy: From India’s Roots to Flamenco in Spain, Hot Club in France, Ukraine and Beyond

Hot Club Jazz, a genre deeply rooted in the swing and Romani traditions, has captivated audiences around the world with its vibrant rhythms and unique instrumentation. This style of jazz was popularized by the legendary Romani guitarist Django Reinhardt and later violinist Stéphane Grappelli. Their popularization of this music, sometimes referred to as, “Jazz Manouche” became a global phenomenon, blending the improvisational spirit of American jazz with the soulful melodies and intricate rhythms of Romani music.

This concert will explore different regions the Roma or Romani people migrated to and the influence they had on the music there including their origin in India, to the Balkans, Flamenco music in Spain, Ukraine, and the most well-known location, France.
