About Christine Serfozo

Christine Serfozo is a movement artist, somatic guide, and creator of Peony Somatic Dance, a transformative approach that integrates body-based psychotherapy, dance, and play for healing and self-discovery.

For much of her life, Christine lived with chronic depression. At 40, she unexpectedly returned to dance and experienced its profound impact on her mind. This led her to study somatic-based therapies and Japanese Butoh, a movement art she describes as revealing the “honest body.”

With 16 years of teaching experience, she developed Peony Somatic Dance, a practice that fosters play, self-expression, emotional processing, and community connection. She has studied with Bessel van der Kolk, Peter Levine, Bo Forbes, and Butoh artist Maureen Fleming, among others. She also holds a Master’s in Literature from Penn State University.

Christine has taught in studios, therapy centers, and elder care programs and has spoken at Alzheimer’s Association Conferences and the Pennsylvania State Association of Senior Centers. She also created Brain Grooves, a movement program for individuals with Alzheimer’s, dementia, and Parkinson’s.

Christine spent years studying psychotherapy, trauma, and depression, but true healing came through movement. This realization shaped her philosophy: movement, joy, and community are essential to healing. She is dedicated to helping people reclaim their right to move with confidence and freedom.
