Thinking Like an Artist Workshop: Transmute: A Sculpture + Sound Experience

July 26, 2025
2:30–4:30 PM

Location: CMA

Transmute is a reactive sculpture session accompanied by a live soundscape. Led by ceramic artist Kerry Boganwright, this active meditation experience uses clay as a conduit for self-reflection and discovery, guiding participants through rhythmic movement to connect mind to body. Offering a brief reprieve from a busy mind, Transmute fosters stress release and emotional expression, embracing the ephemeral nature of creation as a pathway to mindfulness and renewal. Your ceramic creations will be fired and glazed by the artist and available for pickup at a later date.

We are pleased to present this program in conjunction with the exhibition Wild Earth: JB Blunk and Toshiko Takaezu, on view through August 3.

Tickets are $55 for members and $65 for nonmembers.

The ticket price includes a brief exploration of Wild Earth: JB Blunk and Toshiko Takaezu, the ceramics workshop, and all supplies, including glaze selection for hand firing by the artist.

Kerry Boganwright is a Columbus, Ohio-based ceramic artist whose practice bridges the realms of pottery and sculpture. Drawing inspiration from material culture, texture, and the interplay between form and perception, Boganwright’s work explores themes of ambiguity and transformation. By merging traditional ceramic techniques with abstract sculptural forms, her creations challenge the boundaries between functional objects and conceptual art, inviting reflection on the tactile and the unknowable.

Passionate about the dialogue between object and space, Boganwright considers how her forms will perform, emphasizing their physical presence and sensory impact. Crafted with an acute awareness of texture and scale, each piece transforms into an active participant that invites tactile exploration and visceral connection.

Boganwright’s work has been showcased in galleries and exhibitions throughout the Midwest, with notable inclusions at ROY G BIV Gallery and the Adamah Ceramics. She has collaborated with a diverse range of brands and creatives, contributing to projects that span design and experiential applications. You can find her working from her 400 W. Rich Studio in Columbus, Ohio.
