Enjoy a day filled with activities in celebration of our special exhibitions, Ming Smith: Transcendence and Fragments of Epic Memory. Admission to CMA Community Days is completely free, including general access and entry to the exhibitions. We invite visitors of all ages to cultivate creativity and connection through our diverse range of exhibitions and inspired programming.

Magical Memories Art-Making Activity

Bring a familiar scene to life using collage materials. Use the materials provided to create a picture of a special moment in your life together with someone else. Cut up, glue, and assemble your memory with magical additions.

Delve deeper into Fragments of Epic Memory—an exhibition that explores the Caribbean and its diaspora, bringing historical documents into dialogue with contemporary art—with the exhibition’s curator, Julie Crooks (Curator of Arts of Global Africa and the Diaspora at the Art Gallery of Ontario), and Jamaican American writer and activist Prince Shakur (author of When They Tell You to Be Good, 2022).

Experience the rhythms of DJ Aloha, get creative with our Reimagined Portraits art activity, and strike a pose in the Photo Booth!

If you had a portrait of yourself taken, what would you want it to look like? Visitors will retell stories with archival portraits using collage to remix, redesign, and remember alternative histories inspired by artists in Fragments of Epic Memory.

Fragments in Motion: A Movement Workshop

Join Candice Flows LLC for a dynamic, family-friendly movement workshop that brings the visual art of the Fragments of Epic Memory exhibition to life! In this immersive, one-hour experience, participants will engage in a guided exploration of the exhibit’s high-resolution images through movement, inspired by the context and imagery on display. With live drumming and percussion instrumentation, we’ll create a rhythmic, collaborative atmosphere that encourages creative expression. Families will be prompted to move, flow, and reflect, connecting with the art in an interactive and memorable way. Come ready to engage with both your body and the artwork in a unique, multi-sensory experience!
