In 1878, the Columbus Museum of Art became the first chartered museum in the state of Ohio. In 2018, we celebrate 140 years of transforming the city of Columbus through creative experiences, engaged learning, and connectivity. We have presented, over the years, exhibitions and programs that bridge gaps and connect people by bringing about empathy and understanding. From our beginnings as an art gallery housed in the Sessions family mansion to our opening of the Margaret M. Walter Wing, we have elevated our community and inspired imagination and ideas. The construction of the new wing is the expression of our mission moving forward: we won’t abandon our past, but rather build onto it as a foundation for our future.
