Cartoon Crossroads Columbus: Queer Brunch
September 29, 2024
11:30 AM–12:30 PM
Location: CMA
Cartoon Crossroads Columbus (CXC) is an annual European-style festival that spans four entire days—and stretches throughout the city of Columbus, Ohio. Each year, CXC continues to do what it originally set out to do: make genuine connections between people who share a love, a passion, and a personal reason to believe in the future of cartoon art.
Join host Justin Hall and 2024 CXC special guest foundational queer comics icon Rupert Kinnard for brunch at the Columbus Museum of Art where LGBTQIA+ comic artists and enthusiasts will have a space to meet, eat and enjoy each other’s company.
Rupert Kinnard is the creator of the Brown Bomber — a teenage, Black, gay, fairy, superhero — who made his publication debut in the Cornell College newspaper, The Cornellian, in 1977. He’s received too many awards to count—including multiple Gay Press Association awards as well as a Lifetime Achievement Award from the World Arts Foundation.
Queer Brunch host Justin Hall is a San Francisco-based cartoonist and the editor of the
Anthology No Straight Lines: Four Decades of Queer Comics and producer of the subsequent documentary
No Straight Lines: Rise of Queer Comics.
Whether you’re curious about the history, future, or present state of queer comics or just want to discuss comics-craft and personal experiences about being a queer artist, this event was made for you.
Program is free with registration.
