CMA is kicking off our first Community Day of 2024, with generous support provided by Art Bridges Foundation’s Access for All program. Enjoy a day filled with activities including FREE general admission AND special exhibition admission to Accra! The Rise of a Global Art Community and Quilting a Future: Contemporary Quilts and American Tradition.
All are welcome, registration is encouraged.
1:00–4:00 PM
Schottenstein Property Group Pavilion
Enjoy music and tasty bites from local Ghanaian food vendors, a photo booth, and art activities. Stop by our creative reuse station, where second-hand materials can be used to create a one-of-a-kind brooch, using fabrics and sewing embellishments.
10 Minutes on the Dot
1:00 PM, 1:30 PM, 2:00 PM, and 2:30 PM
Lower Level Walter Wing
Join a CMA docent for 10 Minutes on the Dot, a pop-up type experience that focuses on just one work of art for 10 minutes.
Quilted Communities Activity

Ralph and JoAn Talmage Meeting Room
Join Marla McLeod, the 2023 Aminah Robinson Artist in Residence, in a guided activity to create a unique piece of quilted artwork reflecting visitors and their communities.

Cardinal Health Auditorium
Ghanaian-American poet Cynthia Amoah will debut a Community Day Poem marked and influenced by themes of cultural identity and expression of narratives that arise in Accra! The Rise of a Global Art Community. Cynthia will create a living, breathing poem — in Cento form—constructed with crowdsourced ideas provided by CMA community members.
Threaded Narratives: A Dialogue on Accra! and Quilting a Future

Cardinal Health Auditorium
Gather for a lively conversation on themes explored in Accra! The Rise of a Global Art Community and Quilting a Future: Contemporary Quilts and American Tradition with Gayle Strege, curator of The Ohio State University’s Historic Costume and Textiles Collection, and fashion designer Cheryl Penn, moderated by Deidre Hamlar, CMA’s Curator at Large and Director of the Aminah Robinson Legacy Project.
