Mozart to Matisse, Peasant Populism: Mussorgsky and Hartmann

Join CMA curator Daniel Marcus and members of the Columbus Symphony Orchestra for the first
Mozart to Matisse program of the 2024–2025 season, featuring Anton Arensky’s
String Quartet No. 2 in A minor, Op. 35 (1894). Marcus will explore the relationship between art and music in the Russian Empire at the end of the 19th century, focusing on Arensky’s predecessor Modest Mussorgsky and artist Viktor Hartmann.
The program includes a brief lecture on Mussorgsky, Hartmann, and their shared commitment to Russian folk culture, followed by a live performance by Columbus Symphony musicians.
Tickets are $5 for members, $15 for nonmembers.
