Join guest curators of the exhibition Shakespeare in Prague: Imagining the Bard in the Heart of Europe for a walkthrough in the exhibition and a chance to ask questions about this special exhibition. The program is presented by Joseph Brandesky, Professor of Theater, Ohio State University at Lima, and Vlasta Koubska, Associate Professor, Academy of Performing Arts, Prague. Dr. Koubaska is visiting from the Czech Republic and joins Dr. Brandesky to discuss the stage set designs, costumes, posters, and videos related to productions of Shakespeare's plays from the early 20th-century to the present in Prague. These plays have carried special meaning to the Czech and Slovakian people, for whom their universal messages of concepts such as national identity and resistance to oppression resonated during challenging periods such as the Nazi occupation and the Cold War. Sets and costumes from contemporary productions of plays such as Hamlet and King Lear are included as well, continuing the Czech tradition of creative and cutting-edge interpretations of works by England's greatest playwright.
