In conjunction with the Marc Chagall paintings on loan from Jay and Jeanie Schottenstein, Susan Tamarkin Goodman will discuss Chagall’s work before, during, and after World War II. While much of Chagall’s subject matter is marked by floating brides and grooms, bouquets of colorful flowers, and magical flying fish, many examples of his paintings deal with the tragic history of pogroms in Russia, the rise of Nazism in Germany, and the plight of European Jewry during the war years. Dr. Goodman is Curator Emerita at the Jewish Museum, New York, and has written extensively on Chagall. Cost of the program is $20 for nonmembers (includes general admission) and $5 for members.
